The Human Led Framework

Our framework gives employers five commitment standards that are signed up as supporting members, that in return provide a certification the employer, its staff and the wider business community can be proud of.

Our Five Pillars Are

01

Augment before replace

Assess capability before you assess headcount

Assess whether AI can increase a role's capability before it is used to remove that role. In practice, that means the default question for any new deployment is what the team could do with the tool, not just what headcount it removes.

02

Retrain before redundancy

A transition plan, not a redundancy letter

Employees materially affected by automation get meaningful retraining or transition support, not a redundancy letter timed to the software's go-live date.

03

Human accountability

A named person, not just a system log

Defined, consequential financial decisions retain an accountable human owner. AI can prepare, flag and recommend, but a named person signs off on anything that materially affects the business.

04

Transparent AI

Told before it's live, not discovered on a Monday

Employees understand where AI is used in their function and how it affects their role, before it's live, not through discovering it in the workflow one morning.

05

Invest the dividend

Efficiency savings fund the next chapter

A share of AI-driven productivity gains gets reinvested into people, skills and capability, so efficiency savings fund the profession's next chapter rather than only the next quarter's margin.

Five commitments. One standard.

A single rule like "don't use AI to cut jobs" breaks the moment automation genuinely should replace repetitive, low-value work. Five pillars hold both truths at once: automation of the work can be good, and what happens to the person doing that work still matters.

How it's used

The same standard, from first signature to full assessment

Employers sign the framework when they register as a supporting member. That's a public commitment to become certified. Once the employer completes the assessment, the same five pillars become the basis of a formal Certified Employer assessment, so the standard employers commit to early is the same one they're later measured against.

Individually, the framework is also what the foundation course is built around, so members can speak to it, not just recite it.

Beyond finance

Finance is a key industry, but not a boundary

We recognise that finance teams are not facing this change in isolation, departments and roles across every business face similar, lesser and greater challenges of their own. At Human Led, we're expanding our collective so that each department and role can bring careful, supportive consideration to AI, ensuring it's adopted well and with a truly considered approach.

The same argument, augmentation instead of elimination, applies wherever AI is changing how people work.
